Ana Rui is a Portuguese illustrator based in Amsterdam, crafting bright and whimsical designs that blend intricate detail with playful compositions. She finds inspiration in the charm of everyday moments, but mostly in her daughter’s carefree creativity, channeling the joy and freedom of self-expression into her work.
Ana's journey has always been intertwined with art. She has been sketching since she could hold a pencil - and those long childhood summers spent drawing comic strips in her grandparents' garden eventually led to a master’s degree in architecture. Nowadays, her work reflects a lifelong passion for storytelling and design. Her creative process often begins with traditional paper sketches, which then progress to a digital format using Procreate and the Adobe Suite.
Her projects range from packaging illustration for Wild Child Cacao to children's books for Cucoo Kids, and her work has been showcased at Expo Metro in Barcelona (2023) and Amsterdam (2024).
When she’s not drawing, Ana loves getting lost in a good movie, exploring new destinations, or learning something new. While she enjoys the energy of city life, she cannot live without regular escapes to the park or the beach, where she finds calmness and inspiration in nature.

The process
Every project begins with a friendly conversation - a chance to share ideas, ask questions, and spark those creative juices.
Once we have all the details, here’s how the magic happens:
1. Research & Ideation
I’ll dive into research and develop ideas based on everything we’ve discussed. These take shape as initial concept sketches for you to explore and review.
2. Sketching & Colour Studies
After you choose your favourite concept, I’ll refine it into a detailed line drawing that will be the foundation for the final design. Then comes the exciting part - finding the perfect colour palette to bring the artwork to life.
3. Final Touches & File Preparation
With the line drawing and colours locked in, I’ll fine-tune every detail and finalise the artwork. Once approved, the final files are prepared and sent to you.
And that’s it – the work is ready for you to use right away! Now it’s time to impress and share it with the world.
